The Department of Radio-TV and Cinema aims to train media experts who have grasped the socio-cultural importance of mass media from past to present and have theoretical and technical equipment related to the effective and ethical use of these tools. In this section, the theoretical infrastructure that will provide media literacy and critical thinking skills is supported by application possibilities for producing creative media contents. Students will have the opportunity to have a versatile equipment related to the media sector with the specialty courses in radio, television and cinema that they will take along with basic communication courses.

With the radio stations, television channels, media agency and nearly two hundred billboard channels belonging to the First Media Institution, our students benefit from a continuous practice center where they can have sector experience during their education.

Students who graduate from this department can work in various media organizations and advertising agencies such as radio and television channels, film production companies, media monitoring centers, video content sites, and in areas such as production, management, camera, editing, photography and media sales.

About Us

The Faculty of Communication aims to train individuals who are capable of using the forms and means of communication, which form the basis of social life, effectively and correctly. Students are encouraged to become qualified communicators who are sensitive to the social, cultural and natural environment they live in, and who follow local and global dynamics.

Based on an interdisciplinary education approach, the faculty offers students the opportunity to improve themselves in different areas of communication such as new media, visual design, radio, television, cinema, advertising and journalism. With a balanced distribution of theoretical and practical courses, it is aimed to raise graduates who have critical thinking skills and are able to master creative and up-to-date communication technologies.

With its competent and updated technological infrastructure, the radio, television, magazine and media agency of the Birinci Media Institution, the largest media organization in Northern Cyprus, offers rich application opportunities for our students. The experience of the Birinci Media Institution, which has been operating since 1996 with two radio stations, four television channels, nearly two hundred billboard channels and one media agency, provides our students with a unique opportunity to develop themselves in different areas of communication.

In this faculty, where the language of education is mainly Turkish, there is also the opportunity to receive education in English in the New Media Department.

Admission Requirements

Students who are TRNC citizens can enroll in our Faculty by successfully completing their high school graduation. They can also take the scholarship exams to be held every year. Upon the completion of the Higher Education Council (YÖK) equivalence procedure within a year, students who are citizens of Turkey will also be accepted in our Faculty based on their Equal Weight score results in Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) made by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Scholarship rates / score scale is determined by Higher Education Council (YÖK). Foreign students are accepted as a result of the evaluation of their direct applications to the university.

Career Opportunities

It is aimed that our graduates are employed in institutions and organizations operating nationally and internationally, thanks to the experience they have gained as a result of their four-year education. Students who graduate from the relevant departments can work as assistant experts, experts, managers, assistant managers, inspectors, and financial advisors in all industrial and commercial companies in public and private organizations and in all economic and financial markets, especially banks. In addition, they can find the opportunity to work in fields of activity such as marketing and sales.

Since Communication Sciences has a curriculum that includes new media, public relations, publicity, advertising, radio-TV cinema, students who have completed their education in these departments have a lot of opportunities in terms of job options.
